Health Nutz was inspired by series creator Jason Friesen's first-hand experience in the natural health industry, working as a juice bartender in Toronto several years ago.
"Characters who came to the juice bar looking for a quick fix kept coming back for the sense of community it offered," says Friesen. "Sharing personal fears and hopes brought out their unique personalities and idiosyncrasies which is what inspired me to write Health Nutz." And for co-writer Dasha Novak, being an immigrant, the search for belonging in all the wrong places provided endless material for the Health Nutz community.
The six episode series has an extensive online digital media component, including eighteen webisodes and a Health Nutz Facebook game. The online campaign was programmed and launched by Ayogo Games, an award winning studio specializing in social games for social networks and mobile platforms, and with the support of APTN, BC Film, the Canada Media Fund and the Bell Development Fund.
